Learn more about Groveton's Music Program

The philosophy of this music program is that every student can experience success in the music classroom. Standards and expectations are very high, however differences in ability, skill levels and aptitudes are accommodated.

Our program provides music instruction through the use of the voice, barred and unpitched percussion instruments, movement, improvisation, listening and music reading skills. Students are active participants in this "hands on" approach to music education. They learn music by creating and using it. Members of the Fifth and Sixth Grade Chorus enjoy a variety of performing experiences in the school as well as the community. The music program is a very active part of the school community! More about Music in FCPS.

More About Mrs. Masters

My name is Katie Masters. I have been teaching elementary school music since 2008 and I have been at Groveton Elementary School since 2017.  I am certified in General Music K-12 as well as instrumental and chorale music K-12.  I am also a certified K-12 administrator with FCPS.  I believe that every child should have access to music education.  It is a space where we sing, play instruments, learn to read music, dance, create and work together to share in the universal language that is music. Some of my hobbies include: reading, traveling, running, playing with my son, and of course, going to as many concerts as possible!
