The Groveton Art Program is Centered on the FCPS theme, "A Sense of Place".

Art lessons are taught around a main idea for each of the grade levels which help our students achieve their sense of place in the world. Lessons are also connected to classroom curriculum to reinforce learning in all areas. The lessons introduce children to different materials that are used to create works of art. Throughout the school year, students will create art based on the following categories: drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, collage, sculpture, ceramics, and digital media. In 6th grade, students will be administered the FCPS Fine Arts Assessment to allow them to demonstrate skills they have learned at the elementary level.

Art Enrichment Programs

In addition to hour long weekly classes, Groveton students will have the opportunity to participate in various art projects throughout the year.  At the beginning of the school year, the entire school participates in “CHALK4PEACE”, a global art event in which students draw their ideas and wishes for peace in their lives and communities on sidewalks surrounding Groveton Elementary. Students have the opportunity to participate in a number of art contests each year.  Contests will be announced in class.  By 6th grade, the students attend a field trip to one of the Smithsonian art museums in Washington, DC.  Select students from each grade will have work in the Pyramid Art Show and at the end of the year, Groveton has a school wide art show called Fine Arts Night at the end of the year in which each child has one work displayed.

 

More About Mrs. Webb

Mrs. Webb is happy to be teaching at Groveton again this year. She has had a passion for art since childhood, and after high school she decided to pursue a career teaching art. In 2016, she graduated from Radford University with a bachelor's degree in Art Education and a teaching certification. Mrs. Webb has lived in Fairfax County her whole life, and had attended Fairfax County Public schools growing up. This wonderful experience inspired her to come teach for FCPS after college. Mrs. Webb enjoys and practices many different styles and mediums of art, but is particularly fond of drawing, ceramics, and textile art. She actively continues to learn more about art history and new ways to teach art to her students. She believes there is always more to know, and more opportunities to grow as an artist. Her favorite color is purple, her favorite animal is a manatee, and her favorite hobby (besides art) is watching movies and playing board games with her husband.

More About Mr. Saville

Mr. Saville is happy to be part of the Groveton family.  Originally from Buffalo, New York, Mr. Saville has been involved in the arts his whole life.  He graduated from SUNY Fredonia, with a BFA in Animation and Illustration, in 2015, and in 2017 He received his Fine Arts teaching certification from SUNY Buffalo State.  In 2018, Mr. Saville made the move from Western New York, leaving behind his view of Niagara Falls, to Fairfax County, Virginia, and has been working in the district since. While he explores every type of art he can get his hands on, Mr. Saville has an affinity for painting with acrylics, gouache, and watercolor.  He has been exhibited his works in several different galleries across the country, and, in 2016, he exhibited a piece in Slovakia. Outside of art, Mr. Saville loves to read, knit, and play music.  He can already play 9 different instruments and is currently learning to play the viola with the Groveton string class.
